Merry Christmas

My family put up a tree in our house. I left the tree alone, but I really wanted to lay on the cool blanket that my mom put under the tree. Here is a picture of me sleeping under the tree:

My mom told me that on Christmas Eve there would be lots of people at our house and that I needed to behave. No stealing napkins off of people's laps or grabbing food off the table. (For the record, I've never stolen any food from the table or counter.) I promised to be good. My aunt brought me a gift and let me open it first thing:

It was a big stuffed ball with a squeaker inside. I played with my new toy all night, and before the party ended, I got a little crazy with it:

Oh well! Everyone enjoyed watching me pull the stuffing out of my new toy.

My mom said I was very good that evening. I helped people unwrap their gifts and I also helped shred the wrapping paper.

On Christmas Day, I got more toys! Here is a picture of me with my big rawhide bone.

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!

Eddy's Letter to Santa

Dear Santa,

I have been very good this year, and here is my Christmas list:

A new Kong filled with peanut butter and treats.
A new Kong Wubba with a loud squeaker.
A new stuffed toy with a loud squeaker.
A big rawhide that I can chew on for hours.
A nice, long belly rub while lying on the couch or the bed.
A long walk every day, even if it's raining or really cold.
A dog that can live with me and play with me every day.
And please help all lost and rescued doggies find a great home like mine.

I promise not to bark at you when you come down the chimney.

Love,
Eddy

A Fun Thanksgiving Weekend

My mom took me to Petco on Wednesday. I love that place because there are some great smells there. Unfortunately, we weren’t there to shop. My mom left me there with some ladies who gave me a bath, brushed me, sprayed me, and other things I won’t mention. I was SO happy when my mom picked me up! The ladies told my mom that I was really good. Now everyone says I’m so soft and smell good.

A bunch of people came to my house on Thanksgiving. I got in trouble during dinner because I stole the napkins off of people’s laps and shredded them. To distract me, my mom made me a BIG Kong filled with lots of peanut butter and treats. I think I’ll try stealing napkins more often!

My friend Giggles stopped over on Saturday to play. Here are some pictures:

Today dad took the bird out of the cage and I was able to grab its tail. Here are some pictures of me and that darn bird:

Snow and other stuff

It's snowing really hard here at my house. When I go outside, the snow is up past my knees! Some things I don't like about snow: it covers up all the good smells, we go for fewer walks, I don't get to see my friends in the neighborhood, and I hate the little snowballs that stick to my feet and belly. Some things I like about the snow is running around in it, looking for my toys hidden in the snow, and chasing snowballs.

I thought I'd write a little bit about my family. My dad plays with me, takes me for walks, and brushes me. My mom plays with me, takes me for walks, and any time I'm near her, I can get her to scratch my back. And at night if I whine a little and look at her with my sad, brown eyes, she'll get down on the floor with me and scratch my whole body until I fall asleep. My mom also lets me get up on the bed and couch as long as my dad isn't watching! My human sister plays with me and scratches me.

My dad took away my "Hide-a-Squirrel" toy yesterday because I tore it apart. It made a cool crinkle noise and I had to tear it apart to find out what was inside. I still have the little squirrels, and I love squeeking them loudly!

I heard my mom say that I need a bath before Thanksgiving because we are having company. I'll let you know how that goes!

Happy Howl-o-ween!

I had a lot of fun over Halloween. My mom and dad took me to a doggie costume party, and here is a picture of me and my friend Toby in our costumes. I have my Cleveland Indians jersey on and Toby had a bee costume on. She is one of my best friends at doggie daycare.

Then on Halloween night, a bunch of kids dressed in costumes came to our house. Here is a picture of me checking out the candy my dad was handing out. I really liked the smell of one of the candies because it smelled like peanut butter, which I get every day in my Kong. I helped by putting my head in all of the kids bags to check what they've gotten so far.

Hide A Squirrel

My mom and dad wanted to thank the G.R.I.N. Golden Gala organizers and volunteers for another great Gala! They brought home this cool toy called "Hide-a-Squirrel". There are three little squirrels inside a soft tree trunk. As I pull each squirrel out, I shake them as hard as I can to make sure they aren't going to run away. Unfortunately, my mom takes the whole thing away from me before I can tear any of them up. (Darn, that is the best part!) Here is a picture of me playing with my new toy...

GRIN Gala

My mom and dad will be at the GRIN Gala this weekend. I guess dogs aren't invited :-( I can't wait to see what my parents bring home for me! I hope everyone has fun!

Halloween

Look, there is a scary little man on my front porch, and big spiders on my front door!

Dog Swim

Yesterday my mom and dad took me to a local rec center that had a "dog swim" before the rec center did their yearly pool cleaning. I had so much fun jumping in after my toy and I also "retrieved" everyone else's toys! I was very tired afterwards and slept most of the day Monday. Here are some pictures from our fun time!

Fun with Giggles

Here are some pictures of me and my friend "Giggles" playing last weekend. She's lots of fun and loves to jump up and try to attack me. I always try to lie down on the ground for her so she can reach me.

Happy July 4th!

My family had a picnic for the July 4th holiday. I love picnics, because people feed me food from the table, which mom and dad don't usually do. Here's a picture of me guarding the grill. They dropped a hot dog, but mom wouldn't let me eat it.

I Love Belly Rubs!

One of my most favorite things is when someone scratches my belly. As you can see by this picture, even pretty girls like to scratch my belly! This is one of my humans before her dance recital.

My favorite toys

I love toys. One of my favorite toys is the Kong Wubba. (mom says she buys these in bulk.) I like to chase it, whip it around and squeak it. Here is a picture of me playing with my Kong Wubba after my bath.
I also love regular Kongs. My mom and dad fill the red Kongs with peanut butter and treats. It's one of the few toys I haven't figured out how to destroy.
My other favorite toy is any stuffed toy, especially if it makes a squeaking noise. I enjoy the challenge of finding the squeaker and pulling out all of the stuffing!

Bath time

I go to doggie day care 3 times a week, and it's one of my favorite places! I love playing with the other dogs, especially my friends Lucy, Toby and Angel. But after a couple of weeks of doggie day care, my mom says I get really stinky. Bath time is defintely not my idea of fun (as you can see by the picture), but I love running around the yard afterwards. And the best part after a bath: everyone seems to pet me and hug me more!

Freedom at last

My mommy and daddy have started allowing me to be out of my cage when they leave the house for short periods of time. My mom says I can be trusted more now that I'm older. My dad says "We'll see how long this lasts." Even though they leave my cage door open, I still sleep in there when they are gone. I'm going to try to be really good.

My Friend Monte

I have a friend named Monte who stayed over night last weekend. Monte doesn't really like to play with me or any of my toys, but she's pretty cool. My mom says that Monte is much better behaved than me and doesn't need as much attention as I do. What do you suppose that means? Here's a picture of me being nice to Monte. (I'm on the right, of course!)

My Friend Abby

My mom says I have more doggy friends than she has people friends. This is a picture of me and my friend Abby getting a drink of water after playing in my yard. (I'm on the left, of course!) She lives down the street from me and loves to play.

Do I look spoiled?

Mom says I'm spoiled. I say "Move over, I need more room!"

A bird in the house

This is going to sound crazy to most dogs, but a bird lives in my house! My parents don't let me chase the bird like I chase the birds in the yard. Sometimes the bird makes lots of noise and it can even make the same squeaking noise that one of my toys makes.

A new doggy friend

I have a new doggy neighbor, and her name is Giggles. (I think that's an odd name, but don't tell her that!) She thinks she's a big dog, so she likes to play with me. Here is a picture of us playing. She has a CAT brother that drives me crazy. The cat sometimes walks through my backyard and taunts me.

My first post!

Hi! My name is Eddy. I am a golden retriever. My family adopted me from Golden Retrievers In Need in March 2007 and I live in Ohio.

Before I was adopted, my foster mom took good care of me for a couple of months. I still have a mark on my nose from one of my foster brothers!

I love doggy toys, especially stuffed animals. My mom says I can destroy a new toy in about 5 minutes! I love to chew, but I know not to chew on things that aren't mine.

I go to doggie daycare 3 times a week and I love going there!

I passed 3 obedience classes with my new family. I even took a pre-agility class, and it was a lot of fun.
